Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 15, 2025

I’m Marcus Chen, and I run this site. If you’ve ever run an online business — or even just sold a few things from your garage — you know that trust isn’t something you can fake. That’s why I want to be completely open about what happens when you visit swipeoutlets.com.

This isn’t one of those privacy policies written by a lawyer who’s never met me. It’s a plain-English explanation of what information I collect, why I collect it, and what I do (and don’t do) with it. If something here doesn’t make sense, you can always reach out. I’d rather have a conversation than hide behind jargon.

What this policy covers

This privacy policy applies to swipeoutlets.com. It doesn’t cover any other sites I might link to (and I do link to useful resources from time to time). Those sites have their own policies, and I’d encourage you to read them.

Information I collect

I keep things simple. Here’s what I might collect when you use this site:

  • Information you give me directly. If you sign up for my newsletter or send me an email, I’ll have your name and email address. That’s usually it. I don’t ask for anything else unless we’re having a real conversation.
  • Information collected automatically. Like most websites, I use basic analytics to understand how people find and use the site. This includes things like your IP address, browser type, which pages you visit, and how long you stay. It’s all aggregated and anonymized — I can’t see that “John from Chicago read three articles,” just that someone from Chicago visited three pages. I use this to figure out what topics are actually helpful, so I can write more of those.
  • Cookies. Yes, this site uses cookies. Mostly functional ones that make the site work properly, and a few from analytics tools. You can disable cookies in your browser, but some parts of the site might not behave as expected. I don’t use cookies to stalk you around the internet.

How I use your information

I use the information I collect for exactly the reasons you’d expect:

  • To send you the newsletter you asked for (and nothing else).
  • To reply when you contact me.
  • To see which articles resonate, so I can keep writing about things that matter to people who are navigating commercial leases, warehouse decisions, or retail spaces.
  • To keep the site running smoothly and fix things when they break.

I don’t sell your information. I don’t rent it, trade it, or share it with anyone who’s going to spam you. If I ever partner with another company to offer something genuinely useful (like a free lease-negotiation checklist or a webinar with a real estate attorney), I’ll be upfront about it, and you’ll always have the choice to opt in.

Third-party services

I use a few trusted services to keep this site alive:

  • Email newsletter provider. If you subscribe, your email address lives on their platform. I’ve chosen a provider that takes data protection seriously, and I only use it to send the content you signed up for.
  • Website analytics. I use a privacy-focused analytics tool that doesn’t track you across the web. It gives me broad patterns, not personal profiles.
  • Hosting and security. My hosting provider keeps the site online and helps prevent attacks. They might process technical data like IP addresses as part of that job.

These services have their own privacy policies, and I’ve picked ones that align with how I think about your data. If that ever changes, I’ll update this page.

How long I keep your data

If you subscribe to the newsletter, I keep your email address until you unsubscribe. If you email me, I’ll keep our conversation as long as it’s relevant — usually until the question is resolved, and then I archive it. Analytics data is retained in aggregate; I can’t go back and pull up your individual visit a year later.

Your rights

You’ve got control. You can:

  • Unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time (every email has a one-click link at the bottom).
  • Ask me what personal data I have about you. I’ll tell you, and if you want it deleted, I’ll delete it — as long as I’m not legally required to keep it.
  • Turn off cookies in your browser settings. The site will still work; you might just see a less personalized experience (which, honestly, is already pretty minimal).

If you’re in the European Economic Area, you have additional rights under GDPR, including the right to data portability and the right to object to processing. I treat everyone with the same respect, regardless of where you live, but I’m happy to accommodate specific legal requests.

Children’s privacy

This site isn’t directed at children under 13, and I don’t knowingly collect information from anyone in that age group. If you believe a child has provided personal data, let me know and I’ll remove it immediately.

Changes to this policy

If I ever change how I handle your information, I’ll update this page and note the date. If the changes are significant, I’ll do my best to let subscribers know directly. But I don’t expect major shifts — the whole point is to keep things straightforward.
